The Art of The Baggy Method

What is The Baggy Method?

The baggy method is a moisturizing technique that involves using a plastic cap on the hair after moisturizing and sealing to retain the maximum amount of moisture.

How is The Baggy Method effective?

The moisturizing effect of the baggy method is reliant on body heat (which condenses the water) and the amount of time you keep your hair covered. You may choose to use the baggy method for a few hours a day or overnight like I often choose too. The baggy method is an effective way to boost moisture between co-washes and deep conditioning.

How do I do The Baggy Method?

  1. Use your favourite conditioner or water-based moisturizers to moisturize the length of your hair.
  2. Seal in the oil with your favourite natural oil.
  3. Twist or set your hair as you normally would.
  4. Cover your hair with a plastic conditioning cap. (Cling wrap or plastic shopping bag may be used in place of the conditioning cap)
  5. Cover the plastic cap with a scarf or wool hat
  6. Leave hair covered for a few hours and remove to reveal slightly damp and moisturized hair.

In need of some extra moisture, but you aren't feeling your entire head being damp when you remove the cap? Why not just baggy the ends of your hair? Moisturize and seal as usual and put the hair into a ponytail. Cover the ponytail with the plastic cap and VOILA! Happy moisturized ends are yours.

The Greenhouse Effect Method

The Greenhouse Effect Method is a growth and moisturizing technique that involves using a plastic cap on the hair after the scalp has been oiled and massaged and the hair has been oiled.
  1. Oil the scalp with a growth serum or natural oil such as castor oil
  2. Massage the scalp for a few minutes to increase blood flow
  3. Apply serum or oil to the length of the hair paying special attention to the ends of the hair
  4. Cover the hair with a plastic cap
  5. Cover the plastic cap with a scarf or wool hat
  6. Remove after a few hours

Using The Baggy Method or The Greenhouse Effect Method can increase moisture retention, length retention and in some cases increase growth.
