Fine hair is very susceptible to breakage, especially if not cleansed correctly. Prevent unnecessary damage by using a gentle shampoo that does not contain harsh sulfates like ammonium laureth sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, or that is labeled as a “cleanse” shampoo. These products can strip the brittle hair of its moisture, leading to more breakage. This is especially harsh on hair that is already chemically relaxed.
To protect from damage and make your hair more soft and manageable, use protein and moisture treatments to help rebuild the structure of relaxed hair. Choose products that contain organic ingredients and try to avoid ones with mineral oils, as they can actually prevent moisture from penetrating the hair shaft.
