Healthy Hair Indaba 2014 - We Did It For The Love!

By . - Thursday, February 27, 2014

Where do I begin? As I write this post, I can feel myself becoming a bit emotional. Healthy Hair Indaba 2014 has been a labor of love, for 5 women, for over 1 year. We kept this so under wraps for so long, that by the time the event was underway, I truly believed I was going to explode! I never thought that I would meet such a dynamic group of women that I love to work with. Thank you so much ladies for making this event a success!

Meet The Hair Gurus
Aisha Mchumo, Kavuli Nyali-Binase, Wisaal Anderson, Tendayi Kunaka & Carice Anderson

The Venue

Motions Hair Academy &Salon was such a beautiful venue and it was perfect for the first Healthy Hair Indaba. The decor and art work were unique and special that you couldn't help but take it all in before the event was underway. A mix of fantasy art graffiti covered the wall and gave the venue character and dimension.

All the attendees registered upon arrival, and were given a very heavy goodie bag filled with #HairGuru approved hair products to get them started on their healthy hair journey. We teased our followers on Twitter for a while about the goodie bag, but I don't think the women realized what they were in for. The response was amazing and the excitement was undeniable.

I'll give you a sneak peak of the goodie bag contents below, but you need to expect a series of posts about all the products and our various sponsors. Yes, the bag deserves a separate post, it was worth R1600+!

Once most of the attendees were settled in, the drinks and refreshments started flowing, and the crowd was buzzing. Check out the beautiful people in attendance.

The Agenda

Settling on an agenda for the day was definitely a hectic task. We could have spent the whole day talking about hairlines if it were up to me, but we decided on a range of topics in order to engage the audience and give everyone something to walk away with. Below is just some of the the topics we touched on.
  • HEALTHY HAIR GURUS’ HAIR JOURNEY
  • HAIR MYTHS
  • HAIR PHILOSOPHY
  • COMMON PROBLEMS
  • THE BASICS
  • PRODUCTS AND INGREDIENTS 101
  • HAIR HANDLING
  • CARING FOR YOUR DAUGHTER’S HAIR

I spoke specifically about the basics of healthy hair care along with product and ingredients 101. The key points were the following:

  • Washing your hair weekly to removed dirt, sweat and product build-up.
  • Being sure to incorporate a deep conditioning section to your hair regimen at least once a week.
  • Moisturizing with a water based moisturizer
  • Paying close attention to the top 6 ingredients in your hair product, which are listed in order of concentration, and play a major part in your hair care.
It was just the fundamentals to wet the appetite and get the women asking questions and commenting.

My curls were out and behaving on the 22nd of Feb. Twas a good day!
Our Sponsors

A massive shout out to all of our sponsors that took care of media, venue, goodie bags and hampers. These men and women walked away with far more information and knowledge that the R180 ticket was worth. We wouldn't have been able to do it without our sponsors.

Stay tuned for my chats about individual brands and the products that provided at the Healthy Hair Indaba.

Thank you for attending the Healthy Hair Indaba 2014. Please leave a comment below about what you would like our next event to be like, feel like and look like. We want to hear from YOU and make sure that we give you what you want and need.

We came, we saw and we conquered. Until we meet again!

Have a Good Hair Day and remember to Love Your Hair!!!
