What is a Teenie Weenie Afro (TWA)?

A highly textured hair worn at a length of three inches (8cm) or less is a teenie weenie afro (TWA).

Who is rocking a TWA?

This style is typically worn by women who have cut off all their relaxed or damaged hair and have decided to wear it in it's natural state. This is also referred to as 'The Big Chop'. Many women are reluctant to do such a big chop due to perceived limited styling options, but with some creativity, there are several styles that will add variety and character to your TWA.

Just a few ways to rock your TWA...

Remember that ex that used to drag you to the barber every freaking Saturday so he could get a fresh hair cut? I hope you remember how to get there, because that's where I'm sending you to get this fabulous TWA

How To: Ask your barber to set the hair clippers to a 2 or 3 and get zipping away! Allow the barber to give you 'edge up' in order to frame your face and hairline. This style will have you in the barber shop once every 2 weeks for shaping and neatness.

This TWA has a defined texture to it that can be achieved very easily by anyone.

How To:  Spray the hair generously with plain water. Grab a generous amount of moisturizing and curl defining gel, jelly or creme and scrunch the product through the hair. Leave the hair to dry and apply a natural oil for sheen.

Is your TWA closer to 3inches (8cm)? Then you have enough length to achieve this style with a little more effort than the others.

How To: This is where you are going to test your skills with the Twist Out.
  • Detangle freshy washed and deep conditioned hair with your paddle brush
  • Part hair with wide tooth comb or free hand in order to spritz section of hair with water *Size of section depends on preference*
  • Apply curl defining creme to section of hair and seal with a little bit of oil before twisting the section of hair. Repeat throughout the head
  • Dry hair under a hooded dryer or overnight. It's very important to only untwist when the hair is completely dry.
  • Fluff to achieve your desired look

Don't forget to accessorize your TWA to achieve these gorgeous looks in seconds!

A little colour anyone?
