Protecting Your Hair & Weave At Night - Day 5

By . - Friday, September 21, 2012

Plenty of women will have a sew-in weave installed that looks wonderful at first, but knowing how to care for your hair overnight is essential for preserving the weave and your natural hair.

Let's break it down...

1. Moisturizing

  • If you have a partial weave (portions of your natural hair exposed), you want to make sure that you moisturize it on a regular basis. Lightly spray your real hair with water or a braid spray, seal that moisture in with oil and finally with a light creme. This way of moisturizing is known as the L.O.C. method, and it's the best way to moisturize the hair. This method should also be applied to braids that the weave is attached to
  • Moisturizing you weave is a little different. Weaved hair doesn't like a lot of product, so you should steer away from oils, hair sprays and creams. Just spray the weave with a bit of water and seal with a serum like *Pantene Split End Mender.

2. Oiling
  • Keep your scalp and braids under the weave healthy and flake free by lightly applying a natural oil such as coconut oil, olive oil or jojoba oil etc. to the scalp and natural hair.
  • Keep oils away from the weaved hair to keep it free flowing and happy.

3. Wrapping
  • Wrapping your natural hair and weave is a great way to control the hair over night, especially if your rocking a straight or wavy hairstyle. Just wrap the hair, pin if necessary and cover with a satin/silk scarf or bonnet.

4. Braiding
  • If your wearing a wavy or curly hair weave, braid the hair and pinning it up under a silk/satin scarf or bonnet is a great way to preserve a style overnight.

5. Roller Setting
  • Roller setting overnight is a great way to achieve body and to control the weave overnight if your wearing a voluminous bouncy hairstyle.

If you follow this simple method of protecting the hair overnight, your natural hair and weave will look amazing throughout the 6 week weave challenge sponsored by Demi Godess .
