We all get that itch every once in a while to switch up our hairstyles. A few extensions is an easy and not so permanent way to look completely different within an hour. But before you get on the phone to order a batch of your favorite Mongolian hair, here are my do's and don'ts on keeping your weave and your hair underneath in great condition for the long haul.

1. Don't Neglect Your Real HairBefore you sew the full head of Mongolian 22 inch hair in, make sure that your real hair is as healthy as possible. Weaves should be an amazing way of protecting your real hair underneath. However, if you don't take excellent care of your hair underneath, you could end up with a receding hairline and breakage all around. Your real hair should be washed, deep conditioned and moisturized before sewing it up under a weave. Be sure to keep it moisturized and nourished throughout the duration of your weave with a good braid spray and natural oil directly on the real hair.

2. Do Buy Quality HairThe hair that you just purchased does not move when the wind blows, and that's because you get what you pay for. In this case, you paid for a hot fried mess that resembles a helmet on the top of your head. Why bother spending your hard earned money on that? Always remember that you get what you pay for. If you want to reuse the hair for a long period of time, then it's best to buy great quality hair. You don't have to buy hair every month, and in the long run you end up saving money and the hair looks natural.

3. Don't Spend Too Much Time On Your HairAvoid hair that will need to be styled daily if your low on time. I recommend wavy or curly textures for all those ladies with a busy schedule. These textures are usually wash-and-go but they also straighten beautifully for those special occasions. Remember that your weave or hair extensions should make life easier for you in the morning. Ditch the stress!

4. Do Rock a WigWigs are a great alternative to weaves due to their versatility and ease. Plenty of women will get a lace-front wig sewn in, being that it lasts as long as a weave but takes far less time to install Traditional removable wigs are also great because they come off everyday and allow you to moisturize and nourish the hair daily with ease.

5. Don't Use Too Much HairLong and full extensions look amazing, but they are also heavier. Heavy extensions can cause unwanted tension and breakage on the natural hair. As your natural hair grows underneath, the weight of the wefts can begin to tug and break the natural hair, especially the hairline.

6. Do Ditch The GlueWhat year are we in? Why would you glue in a weave?! Stop that! Yes, gluing a weave is faster and cheaper, but you sacrifice your hair and health in the end. Did you know that many women have allergic reactions to hair glue? Also, when you glue in a weave, you can't reuse the hair. Can you imagine not being able to reuse that expensive Brazilian hair you just purchased? Epic fail! A sew-in weave is definitely the way to go.
