The Dreaded "D" Word - Dandruff!

Many men and women suffer with and constantly try to hide dandruff. It's itchy, oily and prevents you from wearing black clothes ever! I want to educate you on what dandruff is and how to treat it from the privacy of your home.

Pityrosporum Ovale is the name of the fungus that causes dandruff. It thrives off of overactive sebaceous glands.

Healthy hair starts at the scalp. If you're having issues with an itchy, flaky, dry scalp; chances are you may have also experienced breakage from the lack of moisture, thinning from the buildup of dead skin cells on the scalp and lack of luster and body.
If you're experiencing breakage, then you aren't retaining length, and you probably believe that your hair doesn't grow. If you're experiencing thinning, then most hairstyles either don't look great on you or exacerbate the issue.

There is a theory that A LOT of hair companies that create products for dandruff believe. They believe that the issue with dandruff will be rectified by stripping the hair and scalp of excess oil, and coating the scalp with a film to prevent flakes from falling.

Unfortunately, harsh sulfate shampoos are used to dry the scalp out. The glands end up producing more sebum to counteract the imbalance. The sulfates dry the scalp out to the point that your glands produce more sebum as a result of the imbalance. This results in a constant cycle of drying out the hair which may temporarily stop dandruff and the reoccurance of dandruff.
Bottom line - stay away from commercial anti-dandruff shampoos.

1. Use a sulfate free shampoo to prevent the stripping of sebum from the scalp and the drying out of hair.
2. Exfoliate your scalp with a simple sugar scrub once to twice a week.
3. Apply tea tree infused olive oil directly to freshly washed scalp to help to treat the fungus naturally.
