My Tried & True Pre-poo Hair Mask

By . - Wednesday, April 03, 2013

We all know that a shampoo that contains sulphates can be extremely drying to the hair, but it's necessary to use one if you use a lot of products containing silicones like I do. To give my hair a fighting chance at retaining moisture, I am sure to do a moisturizing pre-poo before every sulphate shampoo. Here's a quick recipe for a really fabulous treatement.

Ingredients
3 Tbls - Honey
2 Tbls - Coconut Oil
1 Tbls - Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Cap full of Eucalyptus Oil (Optional – I use this because of a dry flaky scalp I suffer from)

Instructions:
  1. Heat up the honey until it’s a very loose liquid
  2. Add the EVOO and Coconut oil while honey is still warm
  3. Mixture will be loose and a bit sticky
  4. Apply the mixture to the hair ends and work your way up to the roots in small sections
  5. Cover hair with plastic cap for a couple of hours or overnight
  6. Rinse, shampoo and condition as usual

Oh my word! When I rinsed this mixture out my hair was so soft and my curl pattern was seriously defined. I decided to leave my hair curly instead of doing a roller set, which was my first intention. My hair is feather light and the curls are really defined.
Let’s talk about the benefits of each ingredient listed.

Honey

Honey contains vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, and is a wonderful beauty aid that nourishes the skin and the hair. Honey also acts as an antibacterial and antifungal agent and helps disinfect and speed the healing process in wounds, scrapes and burns. It also adds lustrous shine to dull hair.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Since ancient times, Mediterranean people have used olive oil to hydrate, regenerate and soften their skin, as well as strengthen and hydrate their hair and nails.  To make your hair shinier, silkier and more lustrous and even help heal dandruff, massage some olive oil into your scalp and hair, then cover the hair with a plastic cap for at least 30 minutes.

Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shinny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.

Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus has a clear, sharp, fresh and very distinctive smell, is pale yellow and watery in viscosity. A few drops of eucalyptus oil either applied directly to the scalp or mixed with shampoo can be used to stimulate the blood flow to the hair and help revitalize dull or shedding hair.
