Kurly Kichana: Locs! Do not........

By . - Saturday, January 12, 2013

Locs are a great way to keep natural hair, they also show off a whole lot of length! However there are various ways to get locs wrong and various DONTS in maintaining locs.

What not to do when you have locs

  • Wear updo's that are too tight, very many hair salons in Nairobi cater to ladies and gentlemen of the locd variety. They offer a variety of styling options which include beautiful updos. If you leave the salon looking like you have had a facelift and you cannot move your head side to side, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG! Traction Alopecia does not discriminate, constant pressure on your locs especially at the front of your head can lead to severe traction alopecia! If you have to bun or updo your locs, keep it loose enough to make sure you dont lose strands
  • Red Locs, Blonde Locs, Purple Locs.....dyeing locs can seem like a great idea. However if you dye your hair, make sure to rinse out your hair completely ( 4- 5 rinses). Incomplete rinsing will leave chemicals in your hair, which will make your locs weak and could possibly start falling off.
  • Sleep without a satin scarf! Lint on locs is not pretty!Remember to sleep with a satin scarf or on a satin pillowcase
  • Not washing your hair! Some people believe that if you do not wash your hair it will loc faster! That right there is a myth. Unwashed locs are smelly locs. Wash locs twice a month minimum

  1. Water is my best daily moisturiser. I spray mine with water - every morning and before I go to bed
