    2. Is it possible for me to just sock bun my hair for the 8 weeks?

      Delete
    3. No, you can sock bun, phony pony and phony bun for a week at a time, but the hair elastic needs to be moved a different position to prevent breakage. That way you can also be sure to wash, deep condition and oil the scalp weekly according to the rules. Try it.

  3. I've been growing my natural hair via protective styles for over 2 years and just 2 months ago i've been using the cg method. I wanna see how fast my hair will grow without protective styles so it will be the opposite of your challenge:) My products: Tresseme Naturals conditioner, warm water and aloe vera hair gel, that is all! I'll post starting pics at the end of a January.

  4. I think Im going to go with the phony pony but I have a couple of questions
1)What does it mean to base my hairvwith oil?
2)Do I take the pony out every week to wash and condition?

    1. 1. Just grease your scalp with castor oil. That's what I mean by 'basing'.

      2. Yes, you take your pony down weekly, wash, deep condition, moisturize and base, and then you put that sucker back in.

  5. I will definately take pictures weekly or bi-weekly depending on what you think would work. I would love to see if any the differences in retaining length with or without protective styles. Lets please get more willing naturals on board it may be interesting.

  7. Hey laddies. Does having yaki braids count as a protective style for your ends? I would love to do the challange but I have yaki in my hair and I know my roots or protected but what about my tips?and the rest of my hair?

    1. If your natural hair is all braided up and the yaki is all that's left out, cool. If not, it's not protecting the ends of your hair, therefore it's not a protective style. You could wear the hair up, not use heat and moisturize your ends every few days, but I can't guarantee the success. Thanks for the question.
