The dry air, cold wind and indoor heating can all wreak havoc on our hair, especially those with coily strands. Add to that poor maintenance and excessive styling and your hair is sure to suffer from breakage and frizz. The keep your treasured tresses healthy, happy, shiny and frizz-free during the winter months make sure you use extra care and always moisturize.

Limit Shampooing
Shampooing strips the hair of its natural oils which are essential in keeping your hair strong and healthy. Try to reduce shampooing to every other day or even less, if you can. When you do wash, use a shampoo that is sulfate free. Also, avoid steaming hot water because it can dry skin and hair out even more.

Condition
To maintain healthy hair, it’s vital that you condition. Using the right conditioner that hydrates hair and helps fight frizz will help prevent your hair from becoming dry and brittle. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a deep-conditioning at least once a week. By leaving a deep-conditioner or intensive mask on for at least ten minutes essential oils penetrate the shaft and help restore hair from any styling and heat damage as well as add extra shine and softness. Be sure to give the ends extra attention.

Dry Gently
Try to be as gentle as possible when drying your hair. Don’t rub vigorously. The more friction you use, the frizzier your hair will be. Avoid using terrycloth because the coarse texture can damage the hair’s cuticle, cause splitting and lead to even more frizz. Instead, gently blot with a paper towel and then let it air dry.

Lock-in Moisturise
After all that effort to clean your hair thoroughly and moisturize it, you need to make sure it retains the moisture. Use a leave-in serum or cream to help seal the cuticle and give your hair extra definition and shine. The top rated Frizz-Ease Serum is an ideal choice because it helps define curls and leaves hair polished and frizz-free without weighting it down.

Styling Products
The winter weather already makes the hair more susceptible to breakage. Why not, reduce it by limiting the use of blow dryers and flat irons. During all seasons, a wide-tooth comb is a curly hair gal’s best friend. A wooden comb with wide teeth or a detangling comb is the best way to gently comb hair without losing curl or pulling out strands.

Protective Hairstyles
Take this time to embrace your natural texture and color. Minimize stress on your hair by reducing heat and color treatments and experimenting with quick, fuss-free, protective styles. When you don’t have much time, pull your hair back into a loose ponytail or chignon. Adding a cute headband is a great way to accessorize and makes it look like you put some effort into doing your hair. On lazy days or days when you don’t wash, try doing a lose side braid or a messy top-bun. Both can be very sexy and practical.
