2012 Hair Goals - 6 Months Into The New Year

By . - Wednesday, May 23, 2012

The new year is always so seductive. It represents a fresh start with an infinite amount of possibilities. You sit and write down all your lofty goals for the year...plans to take over the world no doubt, and two months later your just hoping to get through the end of the day.

1 June 2012 marks six months into the new year. I made hair goals with full expectation of reaching them. I knew that I wanted to reach waist length by the end of the year, but I completely forgot what my plan of action was to getting there. Let me just say that NOT working your plan is a sure fire way to NOT reaching your goals. Let's see what my original hair plan was, and determine how badly I've screwed up.

*ORIGINAL PLAN*
1. Protective Styling at least 10 months out of the year

  • EPIC FAIL! I have managed to PS for a little over 2 weeks with box braids.

2. Deep Conditioning twice a week

  • There have been a few weeks where I only squeezed in one deep condition, but overall I am pleased with my ability to keep this up.

3. Moisturize and Seal daily

  • EPIC FAIL! I have only managed s few times per week.

If I truly plan on getting to waist length buy 31 December 2012, I have some serious catch up to play. I only have 5inches (~13cm) to go, but I could screw it up royally and not retain any length. I think the first order of business is to restructure my plan of getting to waist length.

*NEW PLAN*
1. Protective Style - Sew In Hair Weave - 7 weeks at a time with 1 week breaks in between

  • 17 June to 5 August
  • 30 September to 6 October
  • 7 October to 2 December
  • Moisturize with a braid spray twice and seal with coconut oil daily
  • Co-wash and DC once a week
  • Clarify hair, Hot Coconut Oil Treatment and DC during breaks with low manipulation styles

2. Continue with my Coconut Oil Challenge

3. Consider taking Biotin or MSM *Potential of breakouts scare the hell out of me! We shall see*

This would make 23 weeks of protective styling in total if you add the 2 weeks I've already done. That's approximately 5 months, which isn't too shabby in the long run. I hope you guys hold me to my plan, and watch me grow these kinky coils down my back.

How are your 2012 hair goals going? Is it time to go back to the drawing board and try again?

Have a Good Hair Day!!!
