Current Events - School expulsion over afro resolved outside court

By . - Thursday, April 05, 2012

A boy who was expelled from an Islamic school in Sydney's west because of his afro hairstyle will be allowed to return, but only if he cuts his hair.
The resolution to the long-running stand-off came today after a judge in the New South Wales Supreme Court ordered the parties to resolve the dispute without her. The father of Billal Zraikia took the Australian Islamic College at Mount Druitt to court after it expelled the teenager last year for breaching school conduct rules. Staff at the college had told the boy for months to cut his hair.

While some kids are bringing guns and knives to school, this child just chose to rock his afro and got expelled for it. It's a shame if you ask me.
Tell us what you think. Is it appropriate for children to wear afros in school?
