All About Curls Series - Protecting and Refreshing Your Curls
By . - Tuesday, April 10, 2012
We last spoke about defining your curls. Once you have defined your
curls using one of my four methods, you want to leave your hair alone to dry
completely. I prefer to air dry in order to minimize my use of heat, but you
are welcome to sit under a hooded dryer to help speed the process along.
Today we will chat about protecting and refreshing the curls you
worked so hard to define. In this section, I will teach you how to wear your
curls before bed in order to maintain those precious curls. You will then learn
how to refresh those curls every morning until your next wash day.
Protecting your curls
If your curly hair reaches to the shoulder or further, you may use
the Pineapple
Method that I often use myself. Apply your nightly hair moisturizer
and natural oil throughout your hair. DO NOT RUN YOUR FINGERS THROUGH YOUR
CURLS! Turn your head upside down to gather your hair at the top of your head.
You may use an ouch-less hair band to wrap ONCE around your pineapple. Cover
your pineapple with your silk or satin scarf or bonnet. You are ready for bed!

The Pineapple Method |
The next method is for hair that is long enough to twist (at least
5 cm).The Two Strand Twist Method will allow your curls to do what they
always enjoy doing...wrapping themselves around one another! Apply your
moisturizer and sealant and begin twist your hair in section sizes of your
choice. Unravel the twists in the morning for awesome second day curls.
Two Strand Twist Method |
Refresh
When you wake in the morning, undo your pineapple or two strand
twists. Be extremely gentle with your curls, as you do not want to get too much
frizz. Defined curls is what we are going for. Smooth a little bit of
conditioner, oil and water on your curls to keep them defined. DO NOT FINGER
COMB YOUR HAIR!
Because of the way that you defined your curls in the last section,
your curls will not be clumped together of tangled. You can repeat this
protecting and refreshing method for the next couple of days until you are
ready to wash and condition again.
The next topic in the “All About Curls Series” will be how
to “FAQ’s

everyone. Feel free to leave your questions in the comment section or email me

As someone with very curly (Egyptian) hair - I can appreciate someone who respects the curls. :) HAPPY SITS DAY!
ReplyDeleteI remember when I started off trying to embrace my curls and not straighten them out...I was surprised that I wasn't supposed to shampoo my hair but about 2x a week. I thought it would be awful, but it was fine & really helped my hair health overall, plus my curls got prettier, less fuzzy. Happy SITS day!
ReplyDeleteYour hair blog really doesn't apply to me but I am impressed with your specific helpful information. I am sure your blog is a huge blessing to others. Happy SITS day.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had some curls but people always want what they don't have for some reason.
