Loosen Your Natural Hair...Naturally! - Natural Hair Relaxer

By . - Wednesday, February 02, 2011

So we know that it is not possible to straighten curly hair without either a chemical or heat. Perhaps you're not interested in straightening your beautiful curls. You may just want to loosen them up a bit. Try out these 'Natural Hair Relaxer' options below. If nothing else I'm sure your hair would be super shiny and soft with a bit of these ingredients.

Coconut and lime treatment:

1 tin of coconut milk
2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
4 tablespoons of lime juice
2-3 tablespoons of cornstarch

Cherrylola treatment:

2 part yogurt
1/2 part baking soda
1/2 part Braggs Amino Acids

Baking soda loosener:

1/2 cup of baking soda
1 cup conditioner
leave on for about an hour then rinse out.

Yogurt/Honey/Bananas mix:

1/2 cup yogurt(or sour cream)
2 tablespoons honey
1 mashed banana
**Try organic baby banana food to save some elbow grease.*

I don't know about you all, but I have my eye on that coconut and lime treatment.
It's got my name written all over it.

Which one will you be giving a try? Let us know in the comment section below.

  2. Hello Anonymous,

I'm actually doing a baking soda deep condition right now, and I added a bit of coconut oil to it for added benefit. My natural curl pattern is a 3C to 4A in certain parts. The baking soda deep condition leaves my hair ultra soft and makes the curls pop.

I will post pictures when I am done. Cheers

  3. Hey!

I just came upon this site and I got sooo excited that I went and bought the ingredients right after :D! I was wondering...seeing as it says that over time this can help to soften the curls a little do you think that if I were to use rollers while I have the ingredients in my hair I could help "guide" (sorry but I can't think of a better word) to maintain a certain structure? I have mainly type 3c curly hair with some areas a little less curly and some a little more and I have a lot of shrinkage after my hair dries. When it is wet it goes a little down my back and once dry it is shoulder length. So I was thinking that maybe if I use rollers to the size that I would like my curls to be it might gently help "guide" my hair...even if it does not set it in that way. Perhaps one of you has done this? I will try and do this myself but it will probably take time before it takes effect (if at all). I will keep you guys posted...but would be great if someone who has done this can let me know :D.

    1. You'll have to check various health food stores like The Wellness Warehouse. Let me know if you find it.
